wedding chic

Rehearsal dinners...what's a girl to wear?

Try adding to the challenge an extreme heat wave while attending outdoor events...crap!

Not that I don't mind some sun, but I'm not the biggest fan of sweat stains or make-up practically melting off the moment you step outside.

So, I tried to be creative and pick my attire for all of these wedding activities I have to go to with 2 things in mind: avoid anything form-fitting and wear everything cool and airy.

Enter the default turquoise blue cotton skirt that is ALWAYS a winner in situations like these. Added a black tank top that is more on the side of dressy (because if I'm wearing a skirt and not a dress I want to still be wedding attire appropriate).

I love the rosettes around the neck of the tank top, very cute and contemporary. (Tank: Nordstrom $30)

summer lovin' long dresses

Long cotton dresses= a "do" in hot summer weather.

I'm taking a little break this week, been in seattle and san diego attending (and partaking in) my two friend's weddings...

But unfortunately the west coast has suffered extreme heat waves, some temps have exceeded record-breaking 103 degrees!!!?? (In Seattle that's a rarity...esp with summer temps ranging in mid-80s (if lucky!) during july-aug months...

So what's a girl to do to keep cool in the heat? Long breezy summer dresses = the answer to having the wear something when all you want to do is strip down to nothing!!!

I like this one because it's stripped blue and black and usually I'll wear this when lounging around the house...but it has been in particular good use during my trip home.

Tonight, I'm headed to a rehearsal dinner and will probably be wearing a jean jacket and my gold gladiator sandals to compliment the dress.

Hope you are staying cool...why is it so hard to find some A/C around here???

I'm off to the lake, pronto!

it's never a good idea to sing "love shack" with your bosses at a company karaoke party...

I'm going out with a bang, or in the words of "love shack" ...bang, bang! on the door baby!!! loooovvveeee shack...

Last night was my company's karaoke party/send off since I'll be leaving next week for a new gig...but what better way to say goodbye then to belt out songs from Grease. "Summer lovin'..."

So I wore this dress as it was purchased for a special occasion and I thought should be brought out once again to commemorate the wild ride this past year!

Love the details at the bottom and how the dress just hangs perfectly around the shoulders. I added a belt to give it more personality, but you can opt for red or white or another color...

And the ties in the back are my favorite part!

a dime a dozen

Someone once said, if you were to throw a dime in the air at one of the many metro stations around the D.C. region, chances are you probably would hit someone with a master's degree...better yet a former class president.

Washington is arguable one of the most professionally dressed cities in the country.

With the streets packed of lobbyist, lawmakers and journalists, it's no wonder this city attracts the top 'movers and shakers' working their way up the career ladders...

Lately, I've noticed the summer attire to consist of these three staples, an A-line black skirt, white button down shirt and comfortable but classy black kitten heels. Accessories are left to the creative...it's how you accessorize that makes you stand out and show off your personal flare.

So here's to giving you some inspiration, I paired this simple outfit with my favorite yellow pumps, but jewelry options are plenty...come up with your own ideas and trust your sense of style!

morning glory muffins...

not sure why I picked that headline for this blog post...but lately i've been obsessed with these Firehook muffins that I am currently enjoying as i write this...so what the heck! haha

Today I'm feeling a little romantic, this dress I bought in London while I was studying abroad there and this Beatles' inspired St. Pepper crop jacket...very British.

I added some pretty pearls from Jcrew to add some class and some tan pumps...

a little burnt on one side...

Good morning! Hope you all had a lovely weekend. I made a conscious attempt to try and be outdoors the entire weekend...(lounging by the pool, hosting bbqs or shopping in gtown) but the end result left we a tad sunburned to say the least...

And what better way to show off a little sun color, then to wear bright white!

Today I kept it simple black and white...wearing my favorite H&M skirt with a cardigan from banana.

Add some fun feels and a little jewelry and i think this outfit is a fun summery ensemble...geez, especially in this heat/humidity!?!?

Royalty blue

This h&M dress has become one of my favorite purchases this year...why? because it's so easy to wear for work and dress up or down...

I've been having fun pairing fun belts to the dress, last time I wore this I matched a JCrew gold belt to dress it up, but this brown one makes it a bit more casual, more classy.

The start of new beginnings

The move is complete, the boxes are unpacked... so apologies for my short hiatus from blogging while I attempted to get settled in my brand new house! (as you will notice the new background of my photos!)

This morning I brought out a staple...my ann taylor lime green skirt (circa 03' ???)
that pairs with many colors and tops.

I like the blue/green combo so I decided to go with it today, but I've paired this with a white button-down collar shirt or black...it's up to you.

For: Meggie A. .....Love, Jacq

This post is for my Meggers, who has been a devoted follower on my little experiment project I call this blog...

I apologize for being absent on the blog lately, but with moving this weekend, I'm still unsure what box I put my computer in, let alone my clothing choices for the next few days...looks like I'll be wearing jeans!

Today, I did bring out my favorite turquoise jewelry, which I purchased awhile back at Eastern Market (a great weekend market full of crafts, foods and other knick-knacks near the Capitol).

I've always liked green and blue together so I wore this cotton white H&M dress and paired with a green cardigan.

Enjoy this while it last because its back to jean-wearing during the move tomorrow! haha

Happy 4th everyone!
